Racism

Students from ethnic minorities may find less racial prejudice at university than elsewhere – although they may be surprised by some other student minorities and a small number of staff.

Most universities now have well-organised student groups and societies representing international students and different national and religious minorities (eg black, Jewish and Irish students). Many of these groups are extremely active in the social and political life of the university and a good place to meet other students of a similar background.

Students’ unions are much involved in campaigns against racism. Contact SU officers or your tutor if you have a problem on account of your race – on or off the campus. See also Victimisation.
